Act 5 Quote

Scene 2
Claudius:
"It is the poison'd cup; it is too late."

This is pivotal because it is the beginning of the end. Right after Gertrude drinks from the cup, the king says this. And shortly after, almost everybody begins dropping dead from the poison. This line is the theme for everybody's death at the end of the scene.

Act 4 Quote

Scene 2
Hamlet:
"That I can keep your counsel, and not mine own. Besides, to be demanded of a sponge!"

This is when Hamlet calls R&G out on being betrayers and being stupid enough to be used by the king. Going right along with his theme of blunt honesty, Hamlet tells it like it is to R&G. Making it known that he knows that they are working for the king lets them know that Hamlet isn't a big fool.

Act 3 Quote

Scene 4
The ghost:
"This visitation is but to whet thy almost blunted purpose."

This quote is important because after Hamlet has such an argument with his mother and after he murders Polonius, his father (the ghost) comes to remind him of his purpose. Without this visit who knows where Hamlet would have taken things after committing such a crime. Hamlet respects what the ghost has to tell him.
